What is the Upāsakā Project?
This project is a canon-based repository that aims to serve as a reliable reference for lay Buddhists navigating daily life. Contrary to the popular belief that Buddhism is a free-for-all where followers can do whatever they want, lay Buddhists are expected or, rather, encouraged to act a certain way and maintain specific conduct. Through the work presented here, the project aims to provide the upāsaka/upāsika with sufficient knowledge to discern what is right, proper, and appropriate.
To ensure soundness of our work, most information provided will be substantiated with direct references to the suttas and, when applicable, the appropriate commentarial literature. This anchoring in the canon provides readers with a degree of confidence in the insights presented. However, while the source material is primarily scriptural, the rest of the work will most likely be provided by fellow lay Buddhists unless otherwise specified.
If you feel like contributing or formally joining the project, please send an email to committee[at]upasaka[dot]org.
